eLetters: State anti-discrimination law goes too far

  • L. Bell · 1 year ago
Thanks to Mr. Throneberry for pointing out this frightening bill that our legislators enacted and our governor signed into law. It's shocking and unbelievable. What ever happened to the wisdom and intelligence of the people that we elected to represent us??

It is becoming disturbingly obvious that radical homosexual activists are steadily taking control of our government and country. And we are going in a very dangerous direction, morally.

It's time to bring God back into our decision making process. Despite what a few people claim, God does exist. And He has written a clear instruction book for our behavior. Because he loves us, He desires to protect us from harming ourself.

But sadly it is the inherent nature of humans to rebel against God. They even create their own 'gods' that approve of their behavior.

But in a few short years we all will meet the true God, face to face. And then we will either spend eternity with Him, or separated from Him, based on our willingness to obey His instructions.

Pray that we will turn from our sins, before it is too late.

I cannot believe just how gullible some people can be. There is nothing in that bill that says men and women can enter the other gender's facilities. We have had gender anti-discrimination laws on the box for over 20 years, which would surely have been a more likely cause of gender swapped bathroom facilities. The fact that certain radio personalities, based in Colorado Springs, use this strawman arguement, just goes to show how much of a losing battle this issue is for religious conservatives. Just remember, when looking back at the "good ole days", your likely to trip over the future.

Let me start with some observations. I have taken my niece (when little) into the men's room. My wife took our boys, when little, into the lady's room. I have viewed men take little girl(s) into the men's room and ladies take little boys into the lady's room. At sporting events and at DCPA, when the women's line is long I have seen women duck in and use the men's room. So, other than a law that permits what already happens, I don't get the uproar about this. Oh, sorry. The light just went on! Gay bashing! Okay, now I understand. People would prefer to discriminate against gay people.

Hey, Gov! Since we are already stupid, can we pass a law that discriminates against idiots in C Springs? That would take care of Dougie B and Jim T, Mr. Dobsen, and a whole host of others? We can't? Oh, well, just a thought.

Yet another letter expressing fear that the wrong gendered person might walk into a bathroom as a result of SB200. Yet another example of how mindless fear has been exploited among the fearful. Friends of the Family and their ilk tilt on the precipice of obsession, as imagined scenerios play out from their pulpit theater.
Then, of course, the obligitory insult:
"it shows that this state and the governor have lost their mind and gone stupid."
No cogent arguments, no attempt to persuade, and, obviously, no research, just the rest of us are "stupid".
Thanks Mr. Throneberry, for again revealing the true nature of the religious right. And thanks to the Post for passing it along

I would urge Coloradans to research thoroughly before making judgments on anything, especially legislative possibilities and decisions. Yes, restrooms are included, because transgendered individuals should not be made to enter a restroom opposite to their personified gender. It does not open a free-for-all for men to enter ladies' rooms or vice-a-versa. This bill is making a step to fix a discrimination problem we have in America. If you find yourself offended by the expansion of prohibition against sexual orientation discrimination, perhaps you should address the underlying problem - your issue with the GLBT community in general.

You know, it's funny. 13 States and some 100 cities and counties already have such legislation in place, and have had sometimes for decades, and they haven't had any problems.

You can be sure that if a single problem had occurred, "Focus on the Family" and others of their ilk would have trumpeted it out loud.

They figure though that Coloradans will be stampeded by outrageous and counter-factual claims, out of a desire to protect their children. Shout a lie loud enough and often enough, and people won't bother looking at the evidence. From this letter, it appears to be working.

I am outraged by the statement issued by Focus on the Family regarding transgender individual’s rights under the new Colorado law. This law grants’ all transgendered indivdual’s equal rights in life’s areas such as: housing, employment, education, health care and public accommodations. I personally am transgendered, and am NOT a sex offender! This statement is a blatant scare tactic that Focus on the Family has combined transgendered with sex offenders, which is absolutely absurd! Gender Dysphoria is a legitimist and recognized mental health disorder and has a proven set of standards of care for its treatment, just like depression, bi-polar disorder, or any other such disease. Why would Focus on the Family attempt to jeopardize the health, wellbeing, or safety of any Trans woman or man? Simply put—TO ADVANCE THEIR OWN DISCRIMATORY AGENDA! I for one think that we should all stand up and applaud all Tran’s individuals who have been strong enough to overcome society’s prejudice!

"I have no problem protecting any group from public housing or public, but the bill included restrooms!" So transgendered are not allowed to be protected in bathrooms. Are they not allowed to go at all? Like already mentioned so many places have already had this law on their books with no issues. However, there have been MANY reported and unreported rapes, beatings, attacks, etc on transgender people being forced to use the bathroom opposite as they present. Who there needs the protection? What would happen if religion was not protected n the bathroom. It would be ok to beat up any religious person, or not allow them in the bathroom in the mall. It doesn't make much sense does it?

"Restrooms are not open public facilities. One is for women and one is for men." I wish it were that simple with over 20 different intersex conditions (undeterminate sexual organs). Are you suggesting now that we need 20+ different bathrooms for each possible gender in every facility?

    L. Bell - "It’s time to bring God back into our decision making process." And who is to decide in tis free country which God should be included in the decision process? Born again religious God, maybe a Hindu 6 leg elephant God? Whos God has ultimate rights to the laws of the free country?

Dearest Mr. Thornberry of Colorado Springs:

I am a male-to-female transsexual, although if you met me in person and were not informed of that fact I doubt you could figure it out on your own just by looking at me or listening to me -- you would likely automatically assume me to be a natal female. I have had 'the operation'. Since I've informed you of my status, please tell me which bathroom you believe I should use.

    I eagerly await your pronouncement;

When will the Denver Post and the media in general quit publicizing the ignorance and lies that come out of Focus on the Family. I thought the role of the media was to introduce fact to the masses. Giving a forum to lies, hate, and discrimination is not performing your job. Hatred and discrimination are learned behaviors. Thanks to the media, you're helping to advance those ignorant behaviors by giving a voice to such wacko groups.

First off, "Samara Qz'Etax", you and other transgender individuals are not our concern for the open bathrooms. Though I may personally disagree with your decision and lifestyle I do not view you as a sex offender nor do I think people have the right to treat you like any less of human. However, you made your personal decision to have the operation and with every decision comes a consequence, wether it's fair or not. Your decisions should affect you, not everyone else. In accommodating transgendered people with open bathroom laws, you are oppressing the average person. As an example, a girl should feel safe to use the restroom, but when someone like my sister, who was raped a couple years back, walks into the women's bathroom to find a man inside, she does not feel safe and she has to leave the bathroom without getting to use the facilities. My sister is the innocent person paying for these ridiculous law to try and stop discrimination. My sister did not make any decisions that should put her in such a position where as every transgendered person made the decision to change their sex. You wanted it and if anyone is inconvenienced by your decision it should be you, not innocent victims such as my sister. By setting up "anti-discrimination" laws like this, you ARE discriminating against those who are not transgender. All my sister wants is to feel safe and she has that right, but this law takes that right away from her.
