eLetters: Dr. Kevorkian’s imprisonment

I agree. My life belongs to me. Every individual owns his life and has the absolute right to dispose of it as he sees fit in the full context of his knowledge. To hold other wise by government decree is evil.

Individual Rights are the original intent of the Declaration of Independance and Constitution. That has been chipped away with altruism and 'social duty' to a 'common good' until laws are no longer based on an ethical code based on individual rights. Laws are based on popular opinions and emotions of the moment. The law against suicide is such a law.

I find it astounding, as well as tragic, that only Oregon allows physician assisted suicide. It follows that the legislatures in the other 49 states regard our lives as public property. The Declaration of Independence doesn't give the opponents of physician assisted suicide, the Catholic Church in particular, veto power over the phrase "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness"!

Yes. The claim that based on some mystical proscription we don't have aright to suicide is an anachronism of the 21st century.

Dr. Kevorkian should be declared a national hero and his so-called criminal record needs to be expunged. The sanctity of life means the sanctity of the individual to make personal life decisions. When I opened this blog, I was pleasantly surprised to see no input (so far) from religious hypocrites who thrive on butting in on the private lives of everyone else. How absolutely refreshing!

Isn't it interesting that so many of the political problems of today are so easily remedied by such a simple thing as a quick glance at reality? The irrational ideas of the myth of "price gouging" (those evil, selfish, greedy oil companies), of blanket bans on "illicit" drugs, and of the "immorality" of assisted, dignified, end-of-life suicide are so easily
defeated by observation. Truly, to save the world is easy. All you have to do is think.

A "quick glance at reality" would require one to think; and "thinking is hard work; if it weren't, more people would do it." So said Henry Ford

I'm so glad our gov. is protecting me from bad men like Kevorkian
